DMIC Projects: A Brief Overview
The Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor or DMIC projects was started with the aim of creating a strong economic base that would provide businesses with high-tech infrastructure and a globally competitive setting. These advancements would eventually improve the local market and attract more and more foreign investors.
The minds behind the project want it to serve as the model industrial corridor between Delhi, the capital city of India, and Mumbai, the country’s financial capital. The project began its journey based on an MOU signed between the Japanese and the Indian government. Statistics gathered so far suggest that the project has received an investment of around $90 billion and is looking to set up industrial zones in six states as well as Delhi, which is a Union Territory. About the Project Planned by the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation
The Indian government has decided to set up a multi-modal DFC or Dedicated Freight Corridor connecting the cities of Mumbai and Delhi. The DFC covers a length of almost 1500 km, out of which 38% falls in Gujarat. The DMIC has been established around 150 km away from the DFC (on both its sides). Here are a few numbers that make this high-tech industrial corridor the biggest cause of hope for the country as far as development is concerned:
- The total population of the region is more than 173 million
- The number of workers is over 68 million
- The influence area covers a total of 6 states and 82 districts
- DMIC is all set to feature around 25 industrial nodes
DMIC would also be home to several smart cities. The first one among them is Dholera in Gujarat.
